Original Carbon Apex 40 DoubleConcave Longboard Complete
Original Carbon Apex 40 DoubleConcave Longboard
Wheelbase: 27.5" or 29"
Our goal for the Apex 40 DoubleConcave was to add stability and high speed control without hampering the flatland and small hill carving capabilities the Apex was already known for. To that end, we revised our original deeper-drop concept to a more mellow 0.25 inches in order to allow more use of the drop zone as a part of the stance platform.
While the Apex 40 DoubleConcave is the first Original to utilize a drop-deck design (micro or otherwise), it most certainly is not the last. The team loved the versatility the micro-drop added to the board, and (thanks to the kicks) the Apex 40 DoubleConcave is currently one of the team's most used decks on both the steeps and the flats.
The Devil is in the details. Here is how the Apex 40 DoubleConcave stacks up.
Concave Depth @10.25in: (.620in)
Effect Platform: 26in x 9.5in
Effective Concave @9.5in: (.55in)
Drop Depth: 0.25in
Gas Pedals: 40 Degree
Contruction: Ply Maple + Carbon Re-Inforced Quad-Axial Fiberglass
KickSpecs: 5.0in wide x 3.5in long x 1.1in tall
KickRatio: (4.5 x2) 9 / 31.75 = 28.3%
Wedge or DeWedge Front / Back: 0 / 0
*Please note that all completes that are ordered with the Original S8 200mm and the Original S10 250mm trucks will not be assembled. We apologize for this inconvenience, and because of this issue we will ship out a skate tool (free of charge) with your purchase to help with the assembly of the board.
Choosing a new deck for your quiver can be difficult, particularly when choosing from good options. While it is important to remember that all Apex 40s were developed with the same freeride-freestle versatility in mind, they were each developed utilizing a different strategy to achieve those goals. This creates advantages for each in different riding scenarios.
You are the deciding factor. Your personal preferences may go completely against the designers goals. As a rider it should be your goal to stand on / ride as many longboards as possible.
Every rider may not have access to every board, so read up, watch as much video as you can, and look for the longboard that does what you want. Find what you like to get the board that is the most in tune with your personal style.
